In April/May 2007, Appalshop, the media, arts, and education center in Whitesburg, Kentucky, hosted 13 Indonesians from Jakarta
and Yogyakarta as part of a multi-phased, international exchange project. The project pairs a growing network of Indonesian
media organizations like Boemboe, Etnoreflika, InDocs, Kampung Halaman, Komunitas Dokumenter, and Tembi.
The project is the second international exchange project for Appalsshop in Asia, the first being "Appalshop in China"
from 2000-2005 (see Past Projects).

SONGS & SHAMAN DANCES OF MANIPUR from the Imphal-based LAIHUI ENSEMBLE made its US debut at Peter Norton Symphony Space
on May 11, 2007. The Ensemble also performed at the opening of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenus Issues on May
14. The ensemble, led by Mayanglambam Mangangsana, performed the first dance and classical music performance devoted to the
shaman-led Lai Haraoba festival to be performed outside Manipur. The concert was presented by World Music Institute in association
with Asia Society. The ceremony at the UN was produced in association with Roberto Borrero of the American Museum of Natural
History and CORE.
KHADISHOP is an arts-and-commerce collaboration between Somi and fashion designer Lata Karna. It repurposes Khadi, the all-natural,
organic, homespun from India. KhadiShop was launched in May 2005 and its summerwear is available on the web and through arts
outlets and artists' homes.
